Visiting the Great Barrier Reef has always been high on my wishlist. I think my passion ignited from watching Sabrina Down Under when I was 7. My parents are currently over visiting us in Australia, and we decided to wait until now to visit the Reef, so we could enjoy it together.
Being from the UK, the idea of an outdoor festival in winter doesn’t sound too appealing. But one of the many wonderful things about Australia is that just because it’s winter it doesn’t meant it’s all dressing gowns and central heating.
When I was sixteen I went on holiday to Los Angeles with my best friend. Everything I imagined before we got there was based on the American reality TV Show The Hills. I pictured insanely beautiful people everywhere, make-up “on fleek”, designer clothing, and a figure to die for. The Gold Coast appears to be the LA of Australia. I live in a land where drinking coffee is fashionable, gym clothes are suitable attire for every occasion, and the bigger the sunglasses the better. I work in a cafe where the clientele is predominately mums in their late 20’s/ early 30’s who, regardless of having just popped out a child, still have a better body than I will probably ever have. How can you get lost in a city these days? With all the technology like Google Maps you would think it was near impossible. Well until my recent experience walking around Slaughter Falls, the scariest forest known to man I would have agreed. Let me start from the beginning… I recently drove to Brisbane for two days and one night. A brief online search before I set off gave me some kind of itinerary for when I arrived. In brief, Southbank and Mount Coot-Tha came joint first on my Brisbane to-do list. My day began with breakfast at a wonderful little cafe called Little Genovese that my boyfriend had recommended.
